After getting her professional start as a teacher with Illinois institutions such as Lake Forest High School and the Glenwood Academy, Laurie Kimbrel accepted a dean of students position with Lake Forest’s School District 115 in 1998. In 2002, she relocated to Grayslake, Illinois, where she served tenures as assistant principal for instruction and associate superintendent for programs and personnel with Grayslake Community High School District 127. Laurie Kimbrel subsequently oversaw policy development and budgetary management as a superintendent with the Tamalpais Union High School District in Larkspur, California. This post placed Ms. Kimbrel in charge of approximately 435 staff members and 4,200 students.
Dr. Kimbrel currently handles a range of administrative and problem-solving functions as a project manager for the Atlanta K-12 Design Challenge in Atlanta, Georgia. She also supports the political lobbying organization StudentsFirst and volunteers as both a student mentor and a hospice caregiver. In her free time, she enjoys running and reading mystery novels.
